The Ganges is the longest and most significant river in India, both geographically and culturally.

A delta is a landform created by the deposition of sediment that is carried by a river as the flow leaves its mouth and enters slower-moving or stagnant water.

Gobind Ballabh Pant Sagar located in Sonebhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, is the biggest man-made lake of India. The lake is created by the reservoir of Rihand Dam. Similarly, Dhebar Lake, which is also called as Jaisamand Lake and is located in Udaipur district of Rajasthan, is the second biggest man-made lake.

Chilka Lake is a brackish water lagoon located on the east coast of India, situated between the deltas of the Mahanadi and Godavari rivers.

Wular Lake in Kashmir is a tectonic lake formed by the subsidence of the earth's crust, often described as being formed by terminal morainic dams in geological contexts.

Loktak is the largest freshwater lake of North - East India. It is located near Moirang in Manipur. It is famous for the phumids floating over it. Due to this, it is also called a floating lake. This is the only floating lake in the world.

Kolkata is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly River approximately 80 kilometers (50 mi) west of the border with Bangladesh, it is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational center of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port and its sole major riverine port.

The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (reigned from 1628 to 1658) to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself.

Agra is the city that is not located on the banks of river Ganga. It is situated on the bank of river Yamuna, originating from ' Yamnotri' glacier in the uppermost region of lower Himalaya in Uttarakhand. It also the longest tributary of the Ganga river.

The presence of Susu (also called blind dolphin) in the Ganga-Brahmaputra river is an indication of the health of the river. The Ganges river dolphins can only live in freshwater and are essentially blind. The untreated industrial and urban wastes with a high amount of harmful chemicals are killing the species.
