Mountains, Hills, and Trekking Geography

Gangotri Glacier is located in Uttarkashi District, Uttarakhand, India in a region bordering China. This glacier, one of the primary sources of the Ganges, is one of the largest in the Himalayas with an estimated volume of over 27 cubic kilometers. Around the glacier are the peaks of the Gangotri Group, including several peaks notable for extremely challenging climbing routes, such as Shivling, Thalay Sagar, Meru, and Bhagirathi III. It flows roughly northwest, originating in a cirque below Chaukhamba, the highest peak of the group.

Siachen glacier is a valley type of glacier. The body of ice moving downslope under the impact of gravity through the valley bordered by rock valley walls in the mountain is called mountain glacier or valley glacier.

Alpine glaciers, also known as mountain glaciers or cirque glaciers, form on the crests and slopes of mountains. An alpine glacier that fills a valley is sometimes called a valley glacier. Alpine glaciers begin high up in the mountains in bowl-shaped hollows called cirques. As the glacier grows, the ice slowly flows out of the cirque and into a valley. Several cirque glaciers can join together to form a single valley glacier.

The Balaghat Range is a series of hills in Maharashtra, India, which are indeed considered eastern offshoots of the Sahyadri (Western Ghats) mountain range.

The Kas Plateau, also known as the Valley of Flowers of Maharashtra, is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Western Ghats range. It is famous for its seasonal wildflowers.

The Aravalli  range are the oldest fold mountains in India. The northern end of range continues as isolated hills and rocky ridges into Haryana state, ending in Delhi. The famous Delhi Ridge is the last leg of the Aravalli Range, which traverses through  South Delhi and terminates into Central Delhi
where Raisina hill is its last extension. It is one of the world's oldest mountain ranges. 

The first village after Zoji La pass, Dras is situated at a height of 10,990 feet above sea level. In the freezing winter, temperatures in Dras can drop to as low as -45 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature drop observed in Dras was during the winter of 1995, when the thermal reading fell to -60 degrees Celsius 

Ladakh is often referred to as the moon land due to its barren, high-altitude landscape that resembles the lunar surface.

The Karakoram mountain range is situated to the north of the Ladakh region.

The Zanskar mountain range encloses the Ladakh region to the south.

Ladakh is known as Khapa-chan, which means 'snow land' in the local language.

The altitude of Ladakh varies significantly, ranging from about 3000m in Kargil to over 8000m in the Karakoram range.

Jog Falls is created by the Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 m. The falls is situated in the dense evergreen forests of Western Ghats. Jog falls is also known as Gerusoppaa falls, is the highest untiered waterfalls in India as it drops directly and does not stream on to the rocks.
