The Karachi Session of the Indian National Congress in 1931, presided over by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, officially endorsed the Gandhi-Irwin Pact.

Mahadev Govinda Ranade, along with others, founded the Widow Marriage Association in 1861 to promote the remarriage of widows in India.
