World Geography and Capitals

Côte d'Ivoire has two capitals: Yamoussoukro is the official political capital designated in 1983, while Abidjan remains the economic capital and houses most government institutions and embassies. This dual-capital arrangement is similar to several other countries, including South Africa and Bolivia.

Abuja became Nigeria's capital in 1991, replacing Lagos in a planned move to create a more centrally located, neutral city. Abuja was built specifically to be the capital and is home to Nigeria's government institutions. The other options are Nigerian cities but not the capital.

Jammu & Kashmir has a unique dual capital system. Jammu serves as the winter capital (October-April) when the legislature meets there, while Srinagar is the summer capital (May-September). This arrangement was made to accommodate the different geographic and climatic conditions of the two regions.

Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, located on the Caspian Sea. It has been an important port city for centuries due to its strategic location and oil reserves. Guinea-Bissau, Armenia, and Lesotho are unrelated countries.

Dammam, located in the Eastern Province, serves as the administrative center of Saudi Arabia's oil industry and is part of the Dammam-Dhahran-Khobar metropolitan area where much of the country's oil operations are based. Riyadh is the capital, Jeddah is the commercial hub, and Abha is a mountain resort city.

Basel is the correct answer. Novartis International AG, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, has its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. Basel is a major pharmaceutical hub, hosting headquarters of several multinational drug companies like Roche as well.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands. It's the principal judicial institution of the international community. Rome is where the ICC statute was adopted, and Geneva hosts the ICRC and UN offices, not ICC.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, part of the United Kingdom since the 1707 Acts of Union. It hosts the Scottish Parliament and is Scotland's second-largest city after Glasgow.

Canberra is Australia's capital, chosen in 1908 as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne. It was designed by Walter Burley Griffin and officially became the seat of government in 1927.

Vienna has been Austria's capital for over a century, serving as the seat of the Habsburg Empire and later the Republic of Austria. It's Austria's largest city and a major cultural and political center.

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and hosts the headquarters of the European Union and NATO. It's Belgium's largest city and the center of Belgian federal government.

Berlin has been Germany's capital since reunification in 1990. It hosted the seat of government from 1871-1945, was divided during the Cold War, and regained its status as capital after German reunification.

Accra has been Ghana's capital since 1877, first as a British colonial center and later as independent Ghana's seat of government. It's Ghana's largest city and major economic hub.

Damascus is the capital of Syria. Tripoli is in Libya, Beirut is the capital of Lebanon, and Aleppo is a major city in Syria but not its capital.

Valletta is Malta's capital city, founded in 1566 by Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette after the Great Siege. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its baroque architecture and historic fortifications. Sliema is a modern resort town, Floriana is a suburb of Valletta, and Mdina (Medina) is the old capital city.
