Hemu (Hemu Vikramaditya) was the last Hindu emperor to rule Delhi. He defeated Akbar's forces at the Battle of Delhi in 1556 and was crowned emperor, though Akbar later defeated and killed him at the Second Battle of Panipat.

Raja Rammohan Roy founded the Brahmo Samaj in 1828 and is called the 'Father of the Bengal Renaissance' for his social reform movements including the abolition of Sati. Rabindranath Tagore was his grandson and also a key figure, but not the founder.

The Indian Rebellion of 1857, also called the First War of Indian Independence, began on May 10, 1857, when sepoys in Meerut mutinied and marched to Delhi. This date marks the official start of the uprising.

Lord Canning was the Governor-General of India when the 1857 rebellion broke out. He served from 1856-1862 and dealt with the uprising, which eventually led to the end of East India Company rule and the beginning of the British Raj.

Vasco da Gama landed at Kappad (near Calicut/Kozhikode) on May 20, 1498. This marked the first recorded voyage from Europe to India via the Cape of Good Hope, opening the sea route for Portuguese trade and beginning European colonial presence in India.

The Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain primarily because they switched their bombing strategy from attacking military airfields and industrial targets to civilian areas (The Blitz). This gave RAF time to recover, regroup, and continue defending, while also turning British public opinion against Germany.
