Iltumish (Shams ud-Din Iltutmish), the third Sultan of Delhi (1211-1236), introduced the gold and silver coinage system. He introduced the silver tanka and copper jital coins, establishing a standardized currency that became the foundation of Delhi Sultanate's economy.
