Josef Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union during World War Two (1941-1945). He served as General Secretary of the Communist Party from 1922 until his death in 1953, leading the USSR through most of WWII including the decisive battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. Stalin formed a crucial alliance with the United States and United Kingdom as part of the Allied powers against Nazi Germany.
