Arunachal Pradesh was among the last states to be connected by rail. While some connectivity exists now through the Harmuti Branch line, the question likely refers to the historical context when Arunachal Pradesh had minimal railway connectivity compared to other states listed. The Kalka-Shimla Railway holds the Guinness World Record for the steepest rise in altitude over 96 kilometers, climbing from 656 meters to 2,076 meters. This narrow-gauge railway is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its 103 tunnels and 800+ bridges. The other options (Darjeeling and Nilgiri) are also mountain railways but Kalka-Shimla holds this specific record.
