Yangon (also spelled Rangoon) was the capital of Myanmar until 2005, when the military government moved the capital to Naypyidaw. However, Yangon remains the largest city and commercial center.

The SCO is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance founded by China, Russia, and Central Asian nations. The annual summit brings together heads of state from member countries to discuss regional cooperation, security issues, and economic integration. Tajikistan, as a Central Asian member state, hosted this summit in its capital city Dushanbe. The SCO has expanded over the years to include India and Pakistan as full members. The summit venue rotates among member states.
