The Soviet Union (USSR) won the most medals at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics with 98 total medals including 37 gold medals. The USA finished second with 74 medals, and Australia (the host) came third with 35 medals. This was during the Cold War era when USSR dominated Olympic medal counts.

Sir Alex Ferguson replaced Ron Atkinson as Manchester United manager in November 1986. Atkinson was sacked after a poor start to the 1986-87 season. Frank O'Farrell and Scott Duncan were managers from much earlier eras (1970s and 1930s respectively), while Matt Busby was the legendary manager from the 1950s-60s, not Ferguson's immediate predecessor.

The 9th South Asian Federation (SAF) Games were held in Islamabad, Pakistan in 2004. This was the first time Pakistan hosted the games. Doha hosted the 2006 Asian Games, Dubai and Beijing are not SAF Games hosts during this period.

The 2014 Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, Russia. This was the first time Russia hosted the Winter Olympics. The games took place from February 7 to February 23, 2014. Sochi is a resort city located on the Black Sea coast.

The inaugural Asian Games took place in New Delhi in 1951, making it the first time the event was held in the city. 1982 was also hosted by Delhi, but that was the ninth edition, not the first. The Asian Games Federation was formed in 1949, and Delhi was chosen as the first host city.

Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympics in 1964, marking the first time the Games were held in Asia. Melbourne hosted in 1956, Munich in 1972, and Amsterdam in 1928. Tokyo also hosted in 2020 (held in 2021 due to COVID).

The 2016 Summer Olympics were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the first time they were hosted in South America. Tokyo hosted in 1964 and will host again in 2020 (delayed to 2021), while London hosted in 2012.

The 1980 Summer Olympics were held in Moscow, Soviet Union (now Russia). This Olympics was boycotted by many countries including the USA. Tokyo hosted in 1964, while Athens has hosted multiple times but not in 1980.

The 1968 Summer Olympics were held in Mexico City. This was the first Olympics held in Latin America and was famous for the Black Power salute by Tommie Smith and John Carlos. Rome hosted in 1960, Munich in 1972.

The logo of the 2008 Beijing Olympics was named "Dancing Beijing" (Chinese: 舞动的北京). It featured a stylized calligraphic character representing a dancing figure, combining elements of Chinese traditional art with Olympic spirit. The slogan "One World, One Dream" was the theme, not the logo name.

The official accommodation for Olympic athletes is called the Olympic Village. This is a dedicated residential complex built to house athletes, coaches, and team officials during the Games. The term 'Village' is the standard designation used by the International Olympic Committee and organizing committees worldwide.
