Literary Genres and Devices

Literary sources are divided into three categories; religious, secular and foreign accounts.Literary sources inform us about the political, social , economic , religious and cultural life of our ancestors. Most of the ancient manuscripts are religious in nature. Besides the religious literature there also exists a vast body of secular literature on the subject of mathematics, medicines and science. Cross-genre science fiction, also known as hybrid genre fiction, blends science fiction elements with other established genres such as romance, mystery, horror, or Westerns. This allows writers to utilize the tropes and structures of multiple genres simultaneously. Other options like cyberpunk or space opera are more specific sub-genres with their own distinct conventions.

First contact is a science fiction sub-genre that specifically explores the initial meeting between humans and extraterrestrial life. It focuses on the communication challenges, cultural clashes, and philosophical implications of discovering we are not alone in the universe. Other options like alternate history or slipstream deal with different themes entirely.

Apocalyptic fiction is a sub-genre of science fiction that deals with the end of human civilization, typically due to a global catastrophe such as nuclear war, a pandemic, or an asteroid impact.
