Indian Honours and Awards

M. R. Srinivasan, the former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, was honored with the Homi Bhabha Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Nuclear Society. This award recognizes his immense contribution to the development of India's nuclear power program. He played a key role in the design and construction of several nuclear power plants in the country.

Sunil Dutt, the veteran actor and politician, was awarded the Sat Paul Mittal Award in 2002 for his outstanding service to humanity. He was well-known for his social work, particularly through the Nargis Dutt Foundation, which focuses on cancer treatment and rural development. His efforts in promoting peace and communal harmony were also widely recognized.

Sankho Chaudhuri, a distinguished Indian sculptor, was honored with the Kalashikhar Award for lifetime achievement at the Aditya Vikram Birla Awards in 2002. He was recognized for his immense contribution to modern Indian art and his role in establishing art institutions. The award is one of India's most prestigious honors for excellence in the performing and visual arts.

The Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award. The Padma Vibhushan is the second highest, followed by Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

B. Ramalinga Raju, the founder of Satyam Computer Services, was named the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007. This award recognized his role in the growth of the Indian IT services industry at that time. The other individuals listed are prominent figures but did not receive this specific award in 2007.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding is an international award presented by the Government of India. Goh Chok Tong, the former Prime Minister of Singapore, was the recipient of this prestigious award in 2003.

The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) conferred the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Memorial Award 2010 to Nandan Nilakeni, Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India on September 15, 2010. September 15 is the birthday of FKCCI founder and Nobel Laureate Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

The Special Bench of the Allahabad High Court in its judgment on September 30 ruled that one-third each of the disputed land in Ayodhya would be given to the Sunni Central Waqf Board Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and the representatives of “Ram Lalla Virajman”.

“National Amity Award” was conferred posthumously on Sunil Dutt: The Vice President of India, M. Hamid Ansari conferred the “National Amity Award” posthumously for the year 2010 to late actor and parliamentarian Sunil Dutt on July 30, 2010. The award was received by his daughter Priya Dutt, Member of Parliament and it comprises of a Citation and a cash award of Rs 1 lakh.
