Indian Cities and Places

Patna is the capital of Bihar, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Dhanbad and Bhagalpur are major cities in Bihar but not the capital. Jamshedpur is actually in Jharkhand state.

Bhubaneswar has been the capital of Odisha (formerly Orissa) since 1948. Rourkela and Berhampur are major industrial cities, while Cuttack was the historical capital but lost that status post-independence. The state was officially renamed Odisha in 2011, though the question uses the older name.

Chennai has been the capital of Tamil Nadu since the state's creation as Madras State, later renamed in 1969. It is the state's largest city and administrative center.
