Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Note: After the 2014 bifurcation, Hyderabad serves as the shared capital for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh until 2024, after which Amaravati will be the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, and Ranga Reddy are districts/hybrid cities.

Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha (formerly Orissa). Chandigarh is a union territory and capital of Punjab and Haryana, Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, and Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand.

Hastinapura was the capital of the Kuru kingdom in the Mahabharata epic and is identified with modern-day Delhi. While archaeological evidence points to a location near Meerut, in common knowledge and quiz contexts, it is associated with the Delhi region. Pataliputra is modern Patna, and Mithila is a different ancient region.

Kanyakumari (Kaniyakumari) is famous for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets because it is located at the southernmost tip of mainland India where the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, and Bay of Bengal meet. This unique geographical feature creates brilliant colors. Chennai, Trichy, and Madurai are not coastal points like Kanyakumari.
