Jaipur is famously known as the Pink City because its old city buildings were painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII). The color represents hospitality in Rajasthani culture, and the city maintains this distinctive pink wash to this day. Udaipur is the City of Lakes, Jodhpur is the Blue City, and Raipur has no such color epithet.
