Indian Cities and Places

The Writers' Building is located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It serves as the office of the Chief Minister of West Bengal and is a historic colonial-era building. It has been the seat of the West Bengal government since independence and was originally built for the writers of the British East India Company.

Dispur is the capital of Assam, a state in northeastern India. It is a suburb of Guwahati and became the capital in 1973 when Shillong became the capital of the newly created state of Meghalaya. Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh is a shared capital for Punjab and Haryana, and Panaji is the capital of Goa.

Agartala is the capital of Tripura, a state in Northeast India. It became the capital when Tripura was a Union Territory (1956) and continued as the state capital after statehood in 1972. Kohima is the capital of Nagaland, Hyderabad is Telangana's capital, and Bengaluru is Karnataka's capital.

Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) on 7 May 1861. He lived much of his life at Jorasanko Thakurbari in Calcutta. The other places mentioned are not associated with his birthplace.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha (then Orissa). His father Janakinath Bose was a prominent lawyer there. Cuttack was a major administrative center in British India.

Aligarh, a city in Uttar Pradesh, is world-famous for its lock industry. It is often referred to as 'Tala Nagari' (City of Locks) and produces a significant portion of India's locks.

Kolkata and Ahmedabad are both located at approximately 22-23°N latitude, placing them on similar latitudinal lines.

New Delhi and Bhopal share nearly the same longitude at approximately 77-78°E.

Surat handles approximately 90% of the world's diamond cutting and polishing, earning it the title of Diamond Capital of India. The city's diamond industry employs hundreds of thousands of skilled workers and processes diamonds from mining centers globally.

Shillong served as the joint capital of both Meghalaya and Assam after Meghalaya became a separate state in 1972. This arrangement continued until Meghalaya got its own permanent capital. Dispur is currently the capital of Assam, and Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. 'mehan' appears to be a typo or nonsensical option.

Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India on September 28, 1929. Her father Dinanath Mangeshkar was a classical singer and theater actor. Calcutta, Jabalpur, and Delhi are Indian cities but not her birthplace.

Thoothukudi (formerly Tuticorin) is the leading salt production center in Tamil Nadu, located on the Gulf of Mannar with ideal conditions for salt pans. Other cities listed are major Tamil Nadu cities but not known for salt production.

Shoppers Stop is a well-known retail chain and its Chennai outlet is located in Nungambakkam, a prime commercial area. Mount Road (Anna Salai), Egmore, and Velachery (note the spelling in option D) are other distinct localities in Chennai, none of which house this particular store.
