Surat is known as the Diamond Capital of India because it processes approximately 90% of the world's diamonds. The city has a massive diamond cutting and polishing industry, employing thousands of artisans. It's the center of India's diamond trade, particularly for importing rough diamonds and exporting polished ones.

Howrah Railway Station (opened 1854) is India's second oldest after Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai (formerly Victoria Terminus, opened 1853). CST was the first railway station in India, built to connect Mumbai to Thane. Howrah serves Kolkata and was built soon after as part of the railway expansion from Howrah to Bardhaman.

Panaji is the capital of Goa, located on the banks of the Mandovi River. It became Goa's capital after Goa's liberation in 1961. Gandhi Nagar is Gujarat's capital, Chandigarh is a union territory also serving as Punjab and Haryana's capital, and Hyderabad was the capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Gangtok (spelled Gangtuk) is the capital of Sikkim, located in the Himalayan mountains. It became a major Indian city after Sikkim joined India in 1975. Simla (Shimla) is Himachal Pradesh's capital, Chhattisgarh is a state whose capital is Raipur, and Patna is Bihar's capital.

Hyderabad was the capital of Andhra Pradesh until 2014 when the state was bifurcated. It is now the capital of Telangana.

Panaji is the capital city of Goa, a state on the western coast of India.

Patna is the capital city of Bihar, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

Khandwa is a city in Madhya Pradesh, located in the Nimar region of the state.

Mysore is officially known as the Cultural Capital of Karnataka due to its rich heritage of palaces, art, music, and Dasara festival celebrations. Bangalore is the IT capital, Mangalore a port city, and Dharwad an educational hub - but only Mysore holds this cultural distinction.

Bangalore (Bengaluru) earned the 'Garden City' title due to its numerous parks, tree-lined streets, and pleasant climate. Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Cubbon Park are iconic. Mysore is the cultural capital, while Bellary and Hubli are district headquarters without this epithet.

Salem is a city name that exists in both India (Tamil Nadu) and the United States (Massachusetts and other states). The other options (Ooty, Calicut/Kozhikode, Patna) are only Indian cities.

New Delhi is the capital of India, not Delhi which is a metropolitan area. New Delhi was specifically designed and built as the capital, hosting key government buildings like Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan. Delhi is the larger metropolitan area that encompasses New Delhi.

The inaugural Formula One Indian Grand Prix in 2011 was hosted at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The circuit was built specifically for F1 racing and hosted three editions (2011-2013) before the event was discontinued due to financial and tax issues.

New Delhi is the national capital of India, while Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata are major metropolitan cities but not the capital. The capital status makes it the odd one out.

Kottayam in Kerala became the first town in India to achieve 100% literacy, accomplishing this milestone in 1989. Kerala's emphasis on education made it the first fully literate state in India. Kottayam's achievement was part of Kerala's broader literacy movement through extensive library networks, adult education programs, and grassroots initiatives that transformed the state's educational landscape.
