Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is widely regarded as one of India's oldest major cities with continuous habitation. Bangalore is a relatively young city that grew rapidly in the tech era. Delhi is ancient but not as continuously urban as Kolkata. Mumbai grew from fishing villages to a major metropolis more recently.
