Historical Dates and Events

The Battle of Poona (Pune) took place in 1802, where the forces of Yashwantrao Holkar defeated the combined armies of the Peshwa and Scindia.

The Battle of Vasai (Bassein) occurred in 1739, where the Maratha forces led by Chimaji Appa captured the fort from the Portuguese.

After the death of Aurangzeb the Mughal empire lost its previous strength and glory. It was attacked by Martahas in 1737 (Battle of Delhi). The returning army of Marathas was intercepted by allies of Mughals (Rajputs, Nizam of Hyedrabad, Nawab of Oudh and Bhopal) on call of help from Mughals. The combined forces of Mughal Allies were defeated by Marathas in this Battle of Bhopal. This exposed the weakness of Mughal empire and strengthened the position of Marathas.

The Battle of Farrukhabad took place in 1804 during the Second Anglo-Maratha War, where British forces defeated the Maratha army.

The Battle of Panchgaon occurred in 1775, which was part of the early stages of the First Anglo-Maratha War.

The Battle of Palkhed was fought in 1728 between the Marathas under Peshwa Bajirao I and the Nizam of Hyderabad, resulting in a decisive Maratha victory.

The Battle of Peshawar (or the Maratha conquest of Peshawar) occurred in 1758, when the Marathas captured the city from the Durrani Empire.

The Siege of Bharatpur occurred in 1805 during the Second Anglo-Maratha War, where the British failed to capture the fort from the Jat ruler allied with the Marathas.

The Battle of Salher was fought in 1672 between the Marathas and the Mughals. It was the first time the Marathas defeated the Mughals in a large-scale open field battle.

The Battle of Nesari took place in 1674, where the Maratha commander Prataprao Gujar was killed in a charge against the Adil Shahi forces.

The Battle of Patan was fought in 1790 between the Marathas (under Mahadji Shinde) and the Rajputs, resulting in a Maratha victory.

Kanishka was the emperor of the Kushan dynasty in the second century (c. AD 127–150). He ascended the throne in 78 AD. This date was used as the beginning of the Saka calendar era.

Saka era was started by King Kanishka of Kushan empire. Kanishka was the greatest king of the Kushan dynasty that ruled over the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, Afghanistan, and possibly areas of Central Asia north of the Kashmir region. The Śaka era started in AD 78 is now used throughout India and is the most important of all. It has been used not only in many Indian inscriptions but also in ancient Sanskrit inscriptions in Indochina and Indonesia. 

Maharana Pratap's father Udai Singh passed away in 1572, and Prince Pratap ascended the throne as Maharana Pratap aged 32, the 54th ruler of Mewar in the line of the Sisodiya Rajputs.
