Historical Dates and Events

Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, arrived in India in 1498 when he reached Calicut (now Kozhikode) on May 20, 1498. This was the first direct sea voyage from Europe to India. Columbus reached the Americas in 1492, not India, and 1542 is much too late.

The Hindu calendar systems, particularly Vikram Samvat (starting 57 BC) and the earlier Saka Era, are among the oldest continuous calendar eras still in use. Christian Era began in 1 AD, Muslim Era in 622 CE, and Chinese calendar cycles though ancient lack a fixed epoch marker.

Tipu Sultan was born on November 20, 1750, at Devanahalli (near Bangalore). He was the eldest son of Hyder Ali, who was then a military commander in the Mysore army. Tipu ruled Mysore from 1782 until his death in 1799 fighting the British in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War at Srirangapatna.

Srinivasa Ramanujan, the renowned Indian mathematician, was born on December 22, 1887, in Erode, Madras Presidency (now Tamil Nadu). Option A (1920) is actually the year he died, not born. Ramanujan made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, and continued fractions despite having little formal training.

Aurangzeb, the Mughal Emperor, conquered the Golconda Sultanate (Qutb Shahi dynasty) in 1687 after a prolonged siege. This marked the end of one of the last independent Deccan Sultanates. Option B (1987) and D (2010) are clearly anachronistic.

The first recorded Durga Puja in West Bengal dates to 1606, associated with the families of Burdwan. This was during the Mughal period and represents one of the earliest documented community pujas in Bengal's history.

The oldest Durga Puja in Calcutta (Kolkata) is the 'Sabarna Roy Choudhury family puja' which started in 1610. This makes it one of the oldest continuous family pujas in the city.

The date 3067 B.C. on 22nd November is based on specific astronomical dating theories from researchers like Dr. Nilesh Oak, who used planetary positions mentioned in the Mahabharata to calculate the war's start date. However, this is highly debated and not universally accepted by historians. Traditional Indian calendar systems place it differently. For quiz purposes, this is the expected answer based on the dating theory.

Bhishma is said to have died on the 58th day after the war started, having been injured on the 10th day and lying on a bed of arrows for 48 days before choosing to die. The 58th day represents the total duration from war commencement to his death. The other options (11th, 31st, 17th day) are not supported by the traditional narrative.

The numbers 347 and 303 represent the calculated age differences in days between Yudhisthir-Bhima and Bhima-Arjuna respectively, based on traditional chronological interpretations. This comes from specific dating calculations in traditional texts. The other options (20,100 | 365,730 | 1,2) are not aligned with these traditional calculations.
