Rama killed Bali (Vali), the powerful monkey king of Kishkindha, at the request of Sugriva. Bali had usurped Sugriva's throne and taken his wife, so Rama formed an alliance with Sugriva and killed Bali with a single arrow while the two brothers were fighting, fulfilling his promise to help Sugriva regain his kingdom.
