The Eiffel Tower was indeed named after Gustave Eiffel, the engineer whose company designed and built the tower. It was constructed for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris.

The Statue of Liberty was sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, not Gustave Eiffel. Eiffel did design the internal framework, but Bartholdi created the sculpture itself. The statue was a gift from France to the United States.

This is a bizarre but true historical fact. On February 14, 1945, German U-120 was indeed sunk when a malfunctioning toilet caused flooding that led to the submarine's loss. The toilet's complex valve system failed, causing seawater to flood the vessel and force it to surface where it was abandoned and scuttled.
