Aryabhata was India's first satellite, launched on April 19, 1975. It was named after the ancient Indian mathematician-astronomer Aryabhata. Agni and Prithvi are missile systems, not satellites. Chandrayaan came much later as India's first lunar mission in 2008.

Arvi in Maharashtra housed India's first experimental Television Reception Centre, established in the 1960s to test TV transmission technology before regular broadcasting began.
