Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme was conceived by and carried out under the leadership of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Defence Research and Development organisation undertook the task of building the missiles.

India successfully performed her first nuclear test at Pokharan in Rajasthan on 18th May 1974 in consonance with the policy of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and for self-sufficiency.

The primary objective of India's nuclear energy programme is the development and use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes such as power generation, application in agriculture, medicine and industry. The first atomic power station in Trombay was started in the year 1956. 

Following the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, United States President George Bush demanded the Taliban government of Afghanistan to hand over Osama bin Laden and expel Al-Qaeda.

Osama bin Laden, the founder and first leader of the Islamist terrorist group, Al-Qaeda, was killed in Pakistan on May 2, 2011, by United States Navy SEALs.
