Questions Related to diseases and immunity
Antibodies combine with antigens
-
at variable regions
-
at constant regions
-
only if macrophages are present
-
both (a) and (C)
In the blood, the antigens are specifically and with high affinity bound by antibodies to form an antigen-antibody complex. The antigenic determinant or epitope is recognized by the paratope of an antibody, situated at the variable region of the polypeptide chain.
Which one of the following statements is correct with respect to immunity?
-
Preformed antibodies need to be injected to treat the bite by a viper snake
-
The antibodies against small pox pathogen are produced by T-lymphocytes
-
Antibodies are protein molecules, each of which has four light chains
-
Rejection of a kidney graft is the function of B-lymphocytes
A. Anti-snake venom is made by collecting venom from the snake and injecting small amounts of it usually into a horse. The antibodies that form in the horse blood are then collected and used to treat a snake bite case by injecting directly to the affected person.
B. Antibodies against smallpox are produced by B-lymphocytes.
C. Antibodies contain 2 light chains and 2 heavy chains.
D. Rejection of a kidney graft is a function of T-lymphocytes.
Monoclonal antibodies can be used
-
diagnosis, screening and therapy
-
in vaccine production
-
as enzyme and called enzymes
-
in purification and quantification of other molecules
Monoclonal antibodies are
-
single parent type and attack many antigens
-
single parent type and attack specific antigen
-
various parent type and attack many antigens
-
various parent type and attack single antigen.
The correct statement about active immunity is:
-
It provides immediate relief
-
It is long lasting immunity with no side effects
-
ATS is used for active immunisation
-
It cross the placental barrier
Active immunity is the antibody response produced by the body when exposed to pathogens, vaccines etc. It is a long lasting immunity and has no side effects as these are WBCs produced by the body.
Active immunity development is related to ______________.
-
NK cells
-
Memory cells
-
$T _H$ cells
-
$T _S$ cells
Von Behring was awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of passive immunity
-
True
-
False
Emil von Behring was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1901 for his discovery of serum therapy for diphtheria. He and Shibasaburo Kitasato showed that serum from rabbits immunized with tetanus toxin could prevent tetanus in rabbits. Erlich's work demonstrating that increasing doses of bacterial toxins could provide immunity against lethal doses of toxin was the basis for the serum therapy findings. His work also led to the concepts of active and passive immunization, and to his Nobel Prize in 1908 awarded for establishing the field of humoral immunity. It is fitting to highlight Erlich's contribution to the initial conception of passive immunization in 2015, the 100 year anniversary of his death.
What type of drug is cyclosporin?
-
It treats male infertility.
-
It suppresses immune response while an organ transplantation.
-
It increases disease resistance capacity of children.
-
It treats ovarian cysts.
Cyclosporin is an immunosuppressive agent used in organ transplant patient. It is produced by fungus Trichoderma polysporum.
Anti-rejection medications are better known as
