The Pallavas of Kanchipuram were known for their maritime activities and possessed a significant naval force to facilitate trade and expansion in Southeast Asia.

Shore temple which was built in the years 700–728 AD, is a temple located in Mahabalipuram, a village located in South Chennai of Tamilnadu. It is so named because the temple faces Bay of Bengal. It is one of the oldest structural stone temples of South India.

Narasimhavarma I was the most famous of the Pallava kings. He took revenge on the Chalukyas by defeating Pulakeshi II and capturing Vatapi. These daring acts won him the titles of Mahamalla and Vatapikonda.
