Paradip Port is a natural, deep-water port on the East coast of India in the Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. It is situated at the confluence of the Mahanadi river and the Bay of Bengal.

Kolkata port is located on the banks of the river Hooghly. It handles diversified commodities, coming from south-east Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. Kolkata port was established by the British East India Company after the company received trading rights from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

It is the second largest port in terms of volume of traffic handled and is the oldest artificial harbour on the east coast of India. It handles petroleum products, crude oil, fertilisers, iron ore and dry cargo.

Kandla in Kuchchh was the first port developed soon after Independence to ease the volume of trade on the Mumbai port, in the wake of loss of Karachi port to Pakistan after the Partition. 

It is the largest port in terms of Cargo it handles. Major imports entering the Port of Kandla are petroleum, chemicals, and iron and steel and iron machinery, but it also handles salt, textiles, and grain.

Mazgaon Dock is a shipyard which is located in Mumbai. It is India’s prime shipyard which manufactures warships and submarines for the Indian Navy. It also builds tankers, cargo carriers, passenger ships and ferries. 

Inland waterway is an extensive network of transportation in the form of rivers, canals, backwaters and creeks. It is used as a medium of transportation within a country

The Panama Canal is an artificially made 48-mile waterway in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. It has made commutation easy for countries in east South American Coast to western North American Coast

Suez Canal is an artificially created waterway in Egypt which connects South and South-East Asia to Europe. It saves 4500 km when taking the route south of Africa
