World Languages and Geography

Cape Verde was a Portuguese colony until independence in 1975. Portuguese remains the sole official language, used in formal documents, education, and government. However, most Cape Verdeans speak Portuguese-based Creole (Kriolu) in daily life. Spanish, French, and Italian are not official languages there.

People from the United Arab Emirates are called Emiratis. This is the correct demonym derived from the country's name. Arabian refers to the Arabian Peninsula, Arab is a broader ethnic-linguistic group, and Emiratian is not the standard term.

People from Suriname are called Surinamese. This follows the standard pattern for country names ending in '-e'. 'Suri', 'Surinamian', and 'Surinamer' are not correct demonyms.

People from Finland can be referred to as both Finn (noun) and Finnish (adjective used as demonym). 'Finn' is the direct demonym, while 'Finnish' is commonly used to describe people from Finland (e.g., 'the Finnish people'). 'Finnian' and 'Finlandish' are not valid terms.

Canada has two official languages: English and French. English is spoken by approximately 56% of the population, while French is spoken by about 21%, primarily in Quebec. Both languages have equal status in federal government.

Belgium has three official languages: Dutch (Flemish), French, and German. Flemish is spoken in the northern region of Flanders, while French is spoken in the southern region of Wallonia. The Brussels-Capital Region is officially bilingual.

Mauritius is a multilingual nation with Mauritian Creole as the most widely spoken language. French, Bhojpuri (brought by Indian indentured laborers), and English (official language) are also commonly used in different contexts.
