World Geography and Capitals

Sacramento is the capital of California, located in the northern part of the state's Central Valley. It became the capital in 1854, moving from Monterey, Vallejo, and Benicia temporarily. Sacramento is the sixth-largest city in California and the core of the state's political center.

Hartford is the capital of Connecticut, located on the Connecticut River. It has been the state capital since 1875, sharing the title with New Haven for 73 years prior to that. Hartford is known historically as the 'Insurance Capital of the World' and is one of the oldest cities in the United States.

Tallahassee (misspelled as Tallahesse in option A) is the capital of Florida, located in the northern part of the state known as the Florida Panhandle. It became the territorial capital in 1824, chosen for its strategic location between Pensacola and St. Augustine. Tallahassee has been Florida's capital since statehood in 1845.

Atlanta is the capital and most populous city of Georgia, located in the northwestern part of the state. It became the state capital in 1868, moving from Milledgeville during the Reconstruction era. Atlanta is a major cultural and economic center of the Southeastern United States.

Springfield is the capital of Illinois, located in the central part of the state. It became the state capital in 1839, chosen for its central location. Springfield is closely associated with Abraham Lincoln, who lived there from 1837 to 1861 and began his political career there.

Topeka is the capital of Kansas, located in the northeastern part of the state along the Kansas River. It became the territorial capital in 1855 and state capital in 1861. Topeka was a key center in the abolitionist movement and the site of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case.

Annapolis is the state capital of Maryland. While Baltimore is Maryland's largest city, it is not the capital. Rockville and Frederick are other Maryland cities but neither serves as the state capital.

Boston is the capital of Massachusetts. Cambridge is a neighboring city where Harvard is located, but it's not the capital. Newark and Cincinnati are cities in New Jersey and Ohio respectively.

Hartford, Connecticut is known as the 'Insurance Capital of the World' because it hosts the headquarters of many major insurance companies. Richmond, Derby, and Stanford do not have this distinction.

Columbia is the historical female personification of the United States, derived from Christopher Columbus. It was often used as an alternative name for America, especially in the 19th century. Annapolis, Baltimore, and Nevada are not correct.

Daman is the capital of the Daman and Diu union territory. Diu is the other main island in this UT, Silvassa is capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Port Blair is capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Oslo is the capital and largest city of Norway. Founded around 1048, it became the capital in the 14th century and is known for its Viking history, fjords, and as the home of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Monrovia is the capital and largest city of Liberia, founded in 1822 and named after U.S. President James Monroe. It was established as a settlement for freed African-American slaves.

El Aaiun (also spelled Laayoune) is the largest city and de facto capital of Western Sahara, a disputed territory on the northwest coast of Africa. The other options are capitals of different countries: Naypyidaw (Myanmar), Delhi (India), and Korachi appears to be a misspelling of Karachi (Pakistan).
