World Geography and Capitals

Rome is the capital city of Italy, established as the political center since the unification of Italy in 1871. Munich is a major city in Germany, not Italy. Milan and Naples are important Italian cities but are not the national capital.

Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States, specifically established as a federal district between Maryland and Virginia. New York is the largest city but not the political capital. New Jersey is a state, and Los Angeles is a major city in California.

New York City earned the nickname 'Empire City' because New York State is known as the 'Empire State,' a term popularized by George Washington in 1784. The nickname reflects the city's historical and economic significance. Sydney is in Australia, Zambia and Korea are countries, not cities.

Tirana is the capital and largest city of Albania. Algiers is the capital of Algeria, Luanda is the capital of Angola, and Rwanda is a country name, not a city.

Saint John's is the capital and largest city of Antigua and Barbuda. Saint George's is the capital of Grenada, while Saint Peter's and Saint Paul's are not Caribbean capitals.

Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Armenia City and Ararat are not real cities, and Armavir is a smaller town in Armenia.

Ottawa is the capital city of Canada. Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver are major Canadian cities but not the national capital. Toronto is the largest city but Ottawa was chosen as capital for political reasons.

Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana. Kumasi, Tamale, and Cape Coast are major Ghanaian cities but not the capital. Accra has been the capital since 1877.

Saint George's is the capital of Grenada. St. David's and Sauteurs are towns in Grenada, and Saint John's is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda.

Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein. Schaan, Triesenberg, and Schellenberg are municipalities in Liechtenstein but Vaduz is the seat of government and the royal palace.

Monaco is a city-state, meaning the entire country is essentially one city. The capital is Monaco itself (specifically the Monaco-Ville district). Monte-Carlo and La Condamine are districts within Monaco, not separate capitals. Barcelona is in Spain, unrelated to Monaco.

Maputo is the capital and largest city of Mozambique, located on the coast of the Indian Ocean. It was formerly called Lourenço Marques during Portuguese colonial rule. Nampula is a major city in the north, Matola is a suburb of Maputo, and Chimoio is in central Mozambique.

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia, located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. It has a long history as the capital of various Serbian states. Zrenjanin, Subotica, and Smederevo are other Serbian cities but not the capital.

Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark, located on the island of Zealand. Aarhus and Odense are major Danish cities but not capitals, while Florence is in Italy.

Helsinki is Finland's capital and largest city, situated on the Baltic Sea coast. Oslo is Norway's capital, Stockholm is Sweden's capital, and Limerick is a city in Ireland.
