Social Inequality and Discrimination

Segregation is the process by which students from different racial and ethnic groups are separated into different schools or classrooms. This can be done through a variety of means, such as gerrymandering school district boundaries or assigning students to schools based on their race or ethnicity.

Desegregation is the process of reversing the effects of segregation. This can be done through a variety of means, such as redrawing school district boundaries, assigning students to schools based on their academic achievement rather than their race or ethnicity, or providing transportation for students to attend schools outside of their neighborhood.

Busing is the practice of transporting students from one school district to another in order to achieve racial balance. This was a common practice in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s, but it has since become less common.

Discrimination is the process by which students from different racial and ethnic groups are treated differently in schools. All of the above are examples of linguistic discrimination.
