The nationalization of 14 major commercial banks (each with deposits exceeding Rs. 50 crore) was announced on July 19, 1969, and implemented effectively. This was done to extend banking services to rural areas and ensure credit flowed to priority sectors like agriculture. 1947 was Independence, 1956 saw reorganization of states, and 1971 was the India-Pakistan war.

The Eleventh Five Year Plan covered the period 2007-2012. It focused on rapid and inclusive growth with targets like 9% GDP growth. The plan was launched by the UPA government and emphasized education, health, and infrastructure development.

The Mandal Commission was established in 1979 to identify socially and educationally backward classes in India. It submitted its report in 1980, but its implementation was delayed until 1990.

The Bhakra-Nangal Dam was constructed in 1964. This massive multipurpose project on the Sutlej River was completed after several years of construction and has been crucial for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and flood control in northern India.
