Indian Rivers and Waterways

The idukki Hydroelectric project does not belongs to Tamil Nadu. The Idukki Hydroelectric Project is the biggest hydroelectric Project in Kerala. It comprises of three dams at Idukki, Cheruthony and Kulamavu and related systems. The Idukki Dam is a dam constructed across the Periyar River in Kerala.

There are 17 major river basins found in Tamil Nadu. These are: Palar, Varaha Nadhi, Ponnaiyar, Vellar, Paravanar, Cauvery, Agniyar, Pambar, Kottakaraiyar, Vaigai, Gundar, Vaippar, Kallar, Thamiraparani, Nambiar, Kodayar, PAP. Most of the rivers which drain Tamil Nadu originate from uplands Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. Among the 17 basins Cauvery river basin is the wider one.

Mettur is an industrial plant located in Salem district in the state of Tamil Nadu and is constructed across the Kaveri River in Tamil Nadu. It was constructed in 1934 and took 9 years to complete. Maximum height and width of the Dam are 214 and 171 feet respectively. 

A new species of edible freshwater fish was discovered in the Pampa river in Kerala, India.

• Cauvery flows for only 380 kms in Karnataka. Many tributaries join this river. 

The Krishna River is one of the longest rivers in India, with a total length of approximately 1400 km. The specific length often cited in textbooks for its course is 1392 km.

• The Krishna river's source is near Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra and empties into the Bay of Bengal at Hamsaladeevi near Koduru in Andhra Pradesh.
  

The Godavari River is widely known as 'Dakshina Ganga' (the Ganges of the South) due to its length and sacred status, similar to the Ganges in North India.

• The Kaveri (or the Cauvery) is the largest river in Karnataka and originates from the district of Coorg.

The Bhima, Koyna, Tungabhadra, Ghataprabha, and Malaprabha are all major tributaries of the Krishna River.

The Pennar and Palar rivers originate in the Kolar district of Karnataka before flowing into neighboring states.

The Shimsha River is a tributary of the Cauvery River, and the Shimsha Falls are located on this river in the Mandya district.

Because the west-flowing rivers of Karnataka descend rapidly from the Western Ghats to the coastal plains, they create numerous waterfalls along their course.

• Bandaje falls is a waterfall located in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. 
  
• Bandaje falls is formed by a tributary of Netravati river. 

The Malnad region, which encompasses the Western Ghats, is the source for many west-flowing rivers in Karnataka that eventually join the Arabian Sea.
