Indian Regional Languages

Urdu developed during the Mughal era, originating as a 'soldier's language' (the word Urdu itself comes from a Turkish word meaning 'army' or 'camp') in the military camps, blending Persian, Arabic, and local Prakrit dialects. Today, it is the national and official language of Pakistan.

Historically, textbooks on Indian geography and culture often simplify the vast linguistic diversity of the subcontinent by noting that while there are hundreds of local dialects, they are broadly categorized under six major language groups or main languages.

Sanskrit was the official court language of the Gupta Empire, a period often referred to as the Golden Age of India. During this era, classical Sanskrit literature, poetry, and drama reached their peak.

The Bengali people constitute the vast majority of the population in Bangladesh, and their language is Bengali.

According to the Indian Constitution, Hindi in the Devanagari script is the official language of the Union, while English is used as an additional official language.

Pashrati is not a real language spoken in India. Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu are all major Indian languages. This appears to be a made-up name to test knowledge of real Indian languages.

The original Constitution of India was written in both English and Hindi, but English is the authoritative language for the text of the Constitution.

Article 343 of the Indian Constitution states that the official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.
