Indian Independence Movement

The East India Association was founded by Dadabhai Naoroji in London in 1866. Its purpose was to provide information on India to the British public and promote Indian interests.

Dadabhai Naoroji, known as the Grand Old Man of India, made the first attempt to estimate the national income of India in 1867-68.

The All-India Muslim League was founded in 1906 in Dhaka. Nawab Salimullah of Dhaka was one of the key founding figures.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar served as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and is widely recognized as the primary architect of the Indian Constitution.

G. V. Mavalankar was the first Speaker of the Lok Sabha, serving from 1952 to 1956. He had previously been the President of the Constituent Assembly and Speaker of the Provisional Parliament. Dr. Ambedkar was not Speaker; he headed the Drafting Committee.

Sir B. N. Rau was appointed as the Constitutional Adviser to the Constituent Assembly of India.

Joseph Baptista was the first President of the Indian Home Rule League founded by B.G. Tilak in April 1916. Annie Besant founded her own league later in the same year.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and is widely recognized as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

Chaudhary Bansi Lal, a former Chief Minister of Haryana, founded the Haryana Vikas Party in 1991 after breaking away from the Indian National Congress.

Badruddin Taiyabji was the first Muslim to serve as the President of the Indian National Congress, presiding over the 1887 session in Madras.

J. B. Kripalani was the President of the Indian National Congress at the time of India's independence in 1947.

Aga Khan III was a founding member and the first president of the All-India Muslim League. He was elected as the permanent president of the organization in 1908.

Majnun Shah was the leader of the Fakir-Sannyasi rebellion in Bengal during the late 18th century.
