Historical Events and Dates

The United Nations Organization (UNO) was established on October 24, 1945, shortly after World War II ended. The UN Charter was drafted earlier in 1945 and came into effect when ratified by China, France, Soviet Union, UK, US, and majority of other signatories.

The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was code-named "Little Boy" by the U.S. military. It was the first nuclear weapon used in warfare and was delivered by the B-29 bomber Enola Gay. The names "Big Boy," "Small Boy," and "Cute Boy" are incorrect distractors.

U.S. military involvement in Vietnam began in the late 1950s, with 1957 marking the establishment of American military advisory presence and support for the South Vietnamese government. While the conflict had earlier roots in French colonial rule and the First Indochina War (ended 1954), 1957 is recognized as the start of significant U.S. intervention that escalated through the 1960s until the fall of Saigon in 1975.
