Vocabulary and Synonyms

Compacent refers to someone who is pleased with himself and the situation, who does not want to change anything. Someone who is satisfied with his condition is complacent.

Jaded means worn out or wearied, as by overwork or overuse.

Atrocities denote a behaviour or an action that is wicked, cruel or ruthless.

Valiant means showing courage, determination, or bravery. Option C 'daring' is the closest match. Option A 'sluggish' means slow or lazy - the opposite. Option B 'lazy' is also opposite to valiant. Option D 'cowardly' is the antonym of valiant.

Dank means unpleasantly damp, musty, or humid. Option C 'damp' is the correct synonym. Option A 'small' refers to size, not condition. Option B 'old' refers to age, not atmosphere. Option D 'dingy' means dirty and shabby, which is related but not the same as damp.

Conciliate means to 'win over some hostility or reconcile'. Pacifying means the same. 

Aloof means to be 'at a distance' especially in feeling or interest.

Abortive means failing to produce the intended result, unsuccessful, or fruitless. Option D 'unsuccessful' is the correct synonym. Option A 'overt' means open or public - unrelated. Option B 'violent' refers to force - unrelated to outcome. Option C 'secret' means hidden - unrelated to success/failure.

 'Die out' means to fade out or disappear.

Fascinating means something that is very interesting and attractive.

To undermine a government covertly through various means is refered to as destabilize.

Expunge means to erase, remove, or obliterate completely - exactly matching 'erase or remove completely'. It's often used for deleting records from official documents. Expurgated means to remove objectionable material (usually from texts). Execrated means to detest or loathe. Excavated means to dig out or unearth (archaeology).
