Obstinate means stubbornly refusing to change one's opinion or course of action, often unreasonably. It implies a difficult and unyielding attitude, similar to being pig-headed or persistent in opposition. Stubborn is the closest synonym among the options. Reckless means without thought for consequences, which is different from obstinate. Selfish means concerned only with oneself. It means recklessly or thoughtlessly bold; foolishly rash or venturesome.

It is meant for someone resisting control or restraint in a difficult manner; unruly.

Peremptory means commanding, dictatorial, and insisting on immediate obedience without accepting refusal or disagreement. It implies an arrogant, bossy tone that leaves no room for negotiation. Imperious means arrogantly domineering or assuming power without justification, which closely matches peremptory. Specious means seemingly good but actually false - misleading. Decadent means characterized by moral or cultural decline, decay, or deterioration. In the context of feudalism, it refers to a declining or decaying system. Option D 'declining' correctly captures this meaning of gradual decay or deterioration.

Humdrum means lacking variety or excitement; dull, monotonous, or routine.
