India became the first sub-continental team to defeat Australia at the WACA (Western Australia Cricket Association) Ground in Perth during the 1977 test match. India has played the most number of ODI matches in cricket history, due to their extensive international cricket schedule and long cricketing history. As of 2011, they had surpassed other cricket-playing nations in total ODI matches played.

In the 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup held in Germany, India played South Africa and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. This was one of India's pool matches where they managed to draw against the South African team.

India reached the Davis Cup final for the first time in 1966, led by the legendary Ramanathan Krishnan and his son Ramesh Krishnan. Though India didn't win, reaching the final was a significant achievement in Indian tennis history. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis.
