Science fiction is defined by its speculative nature, scientific grounding, and connection to reality. While many science fiction stories are adapted into films, being translatable to film is not an inherent defining characteristic of the literary genre itself. Many complex sci-fi novels remain unadapted or are difficult to translate to the screen.
