Palk Strait is a narrow water channel between the Tamil Nadu coast of India and Sri Lanka, approximately 40-85 miles wide and 85-135 feet deep. It connects the Bay of Bengal to the northeast with the Palk Bay to the south and is known for its shallow waters and the historic Adam's Bridge (Rama's Bridge) limestone shoals.
