Cold war begins

The Cold War began immediately after World War II (1945-1991) primarily between the United States and the Soviet Union (USSR). It was a period of geopolitical tension, ideological conflict (capitalism vs communism), arms race, and proxy wars without direct military confrontation between the two superpowers. While Germany was divided and China became communist later, the fundamental rivalry was between USA and USSR.
