Damascus is widely considered the oldest continuously inhabited capital city in the world, with evidence of settlement dating back over 11,000 years. It has served as the capital of various civilizations including the Arameans, Romans, and Umayyads. London, Kathmandu, and Lhasa, while historically significant, are much younger by comparison.
