Bridge between elementary and higher education that prepares pupil between the age group of 14-18 for entry into higher education is called secondary education. Secondary classes include 9^th and 10^th. It consists of two levels, level 2 junior secondary education, which is considered the second and final phase of basic education, and level 3 (Upper) secondary education.

Following are the welfare measures taken by the government of Tamilnadu to improve secondary education:-

• Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Nutritious Noon-Meal Programme.
• Distribution of free bi-cycles.
• Footwear at free of cost.

Golden Quadrilateral is a network of highways connecting India's four top metropolitan cities, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, thereby, forming a quadrilateral. The largest highway project in India, the Golden Quadrilateral project was launched in 2001 as part of National Highways Development Project (NHDP). Tamilnadu is a terminus for the Golden Quadrilateral project that connects four major metropolitan cities in India.

Higher secondary education is also called as HSC. It includes classes of 11^th and 12^th. These classes are being called as Intermediate Education.

The ratio of the number of children of official primary school age who are enrolled in primary education to the total population of children of official primary school age, expressed as a percentage is called Net enrolment ratio. It is defined as the enrolment of the official age-group for a given level of education. The purpose of NER is to show the extent of participation in a given level of education of children and youths belonging to the official age-group corresponding to the given level of education.

• State Express Transport Corporation (Tamil Nadu) is a state-owned transport corporation that runs long distance mofussil services exceeding 300 km and above throughout the state of Tamil Nadu and major cities in adjoining states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and the union territory of Puduchery.
• Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited (TNSTC) is a public transport bus operator in Tamil Nadu, India. It operates Intercity bus services to cities within Tamil Nadu, and from Tamil Nadu to its neighbouring states with a combined fleet strength of 20,839 buses as of 2016-17. It also operates Public transport bus service in many cities of Tamil Nadu, with the exception of Chennai, where the public bus service is operated by MTC, a subsidiary of TNSTC.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is an Indian Government programme aimed at the universalisation of elementary education "in a time bound manner", as mandated by the 86th Amendment to the Constitution of India making free and compulsory education to children between the ages of 6 to 14 (estimated to be 205 million children in 2001) a fundamental right. The programme was pioneered by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Constitution (Eighty-sixth Amendment) Act, 2002 inserted Article 21-A in the Constitution of India to provide free and compulsory education of all children in the age group of six to fourteen years as a Fundamental Right in such a manner as the State may, by law, determine. The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which represents the consequential legislation envisaged under Article 21-A, means that every child has a right to full time elementary education of satisfactory and equitable quality in a formal school which satisfies certain essential norms and standards.
