J.M. Coetzee won the 1999 Man Booker Prize for 'Disgrace'. Coetzee is a South African writer who has won the Booker Prize twice (also for 'Life and Times of Michael K' in 1983) and later won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003. Anita Desai's 'Fasting, Feasting' was indeed shortlisted but did not win.

Amitav Ghosh was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize for 'Sea of Poppies'. Aravind Adiga won that year for 'The White Tiger'. Salman Rushdie has won the Booker (1981 for 'Midnight's Children') but was not shortlisted in 2008. Kiran Desai won in 2006.

Jhumpa Lahiri won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for 'Interpreter of Maladies', her debut collection of short stories exploring the Indian-American immigrant experience. 'The Namesake' is her novel but was not a Pulitzer winner. 'Our Fathers' and 'The Children's Book' are not her works.

Gobind Behari Lal was the first Indian to win a Pulitzer Prize in 1937 for Journalism (reporting on science). Jhumpa Lahiri won later (2000). Geeta Anand won in 2003 for Investigative Reporting. Aravind Adiga won the Booker Prize, not Pulitzer.

Geeta Anand, an India-born journalist working for the Wall Street Journal in the U.S., won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for her series on medical science. Gita Mehta and Bharati Mukherjee are noted Indian writers but not Pulitzer winners. Bharti Kirchner is also a writer, not a Pulitzer recipient.

Chetan Bhagat was named in Time Magazine's list of World's 100 Most Influential People in 2010 for his impact on Indian youth through bestselling novels like 'Five Point Someone' and '2 States'. Tushar Raheja, Rahul Saini, and Ravinder Singh are also Indian popular fiction writers but were not featured in this specific Time list.
