Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is situated near the Mandakini River's origin in the Garhwal Himalayan range of Uttarakhand. The Teesta flows through Sikkim and West Bengal, Beas through Himachal and Punjab, and Narmada through central India.

Shivaji was the first Maratha ruler to adopt the title Chhatrapati and established the Maratha Empire. While he used various titles including 'Sardeshmukh' in his coronation ceremony of 1674, he is historically recognized as the first major Maratha leader to claim paramount authority over Maharashtra region, establishing sovereignty against the Sultanate of Bijapur and later the Mughal Empire. Nana Saheb and Rajaram came later, while Balaji Baji Rao (Nana Saheb) was a Peshwa (prime minister), not the sovereign ruler.
