In the Mahabharata, Sahadeva and Nakula were twins born to Madri, who invoked the Ashwini Kumaras. Kunti was the mother of the three eldest Pandavas (Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna).

Pandu had two wives: Kunti (mother of Yudhishthir, Bhim, Arjun through divine blessings) and Madri (mother of Nakul and Sahdev through the Ashwini Kumaras). After Pandu's death, Madri committed sati and Kunti raised all five Pandavas.
