Charminar was built by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah in 1591 AD to commemorate the end of a plague epidemic in Hyderabad. He was the fifth ruler of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. The monument has four minarets (char=minar, four=minarets).

India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the British architect who designed much of New Delhi. It was built in 1931 as a war memorial to honor Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The foundation stone was laid by the Duke of Connaught.

Dr. Zakir Husain was the second Vice President of India, serving from 1962 to 1967. He later became the first Muslim President of India in 1967. The first Vice President was Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1952-1962).
