Gandhi fought against racial discrimination in South Africa (RSA) from 1893-1914, developing his philosophy of Satyagraha during the Durban and Johannesburg campaigns against racist laws.

Gandhi worked as a lawyer in South Africa, representing Indian clients and fighting discriminatory laws. He practiced law in Durban and Johannesburg from 1893-1914.

Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse in New Delhi. He had just finished a prayer meeting when he was shot. This tragic event occurred just months after India gained independence.

Ethiopia uses a unique calendar system with 13 months in a year - 12 months of 30 days each, plus a 13th month called 'Pagume' with 5 or 6 days depending on whether it's a leap year. This gives Ethiopia a calendar that is about 7-8 years behind the Gregorian calendar used in most of the world. Morarji Desai was the first Prime Minister to resign from office in 1979, leading the first non-Congress government after the Emergency. He resigned due to internal party conflicts in the Janata Party coalition. Zakir Hussain was President (died in office), and the others were not Prime Ministers.

Bachhendri Pal became the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest in 1984. She was part of India's first successful all-women expedition to Everest and has been a pioneering figure in Indian mountaineering. Sucheta Kriplani was a freedom fighter, Vijaylaxmi Pandit a diplomat, and Kiran Bedi a police officer.

Sarojini Naidu was the first woman to become a Governor of an Indian state (Uttar Pradesh) in 1947. She was a prominent freedom fighter, poet, and close associate of Gandhi, known as the Nightingale of India. Sucheta Kriplani was the first woman Chief Minister, Indira Gandhi the first woman Prime Minister, and Kiran Bedi the first woman IPS officer.
