Hider Ali and his son Tipu Sultan developed iron-cased and metal-cylinder rocket artillery in the 18th century, which was advanced for its time. Their military innovations included the Mysorean rockets that were later studied by the British.

Cape Comorin was the British colonial name for Kanyakumari, used until India's independence. The name comes from the nearby Cape Comorin point. The other capes listed are famous geographic landmarks but not associated with this location.
